Ford Introduces The All-New 2022 Ford Maverick
Defying everyone’s expectations, Ford has announced an all-new hybrid pickup truck with a starting MSRP of under $20,000. The 2022 Ford Maverick is a completely new compact design and offers a full-hybrid powertrain as standard and will soon be available at Galpin Ford in Los Angeles, CA. The targeted EPA-estimated fuel economy should be around 40 mpg city, and up to 500 miles of range on a single tank of gas means it will have better fuel-economy efficiency than many vehicles in the compact sedan segment.
Even with its compact design and fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain, this is still very much a pickup truck. The bed can handle a standard payload of up to 1,500 pounds and enough space to hold items like a standard-sized ATV. The Maverick also offers a towing capacity of up to 2,000 pounds which opens up plenty of options for additional toys or a decent-sized pop-up camper.
For those that love the size of the compact Maverick, but need even more capability and options can upgrade to the 2.0-liter EcoBoost® gas engine delivering 250 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque. The optional engine upgrade comes with additional options like all-wheel drive or the optional 4K Tow Package.
Even with its budget-friendly starting MSRP, the Maverick offers a ton of great standard features and tech including Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto®, both of which pair nicely with the standard 8-inch center touch screen. The Maverick is also equipped with standard FordPass™ which allows you to find the truck, check the fuel level, lock and unlock the doors, and start or turn off the vehicle – all from your phone. When on the road FordPass™ allows passengers to connect to onboard Wi-Fi.
“One thing that’s non-negotiable is that Maverick is Built Ford Tough,” said Chris Mazur, a third-generation Ford employee who led the development of the all-new pickup as chief engineer. “Our engineers were unrelenting, putting it through a battery of vicious on-road, off-road, environmental and simulated customer use testing until we were satisfied. Ford trucks are Ford trucks – through and through.”
